Top Napa Valley Wine Tours

If I had a nickel for every time I was asked what my favorite wineries in Napa are I could buy a bottle of Screaming Eagle, or at the very least a bottle of Nickel & Nickel. 🙂 Narrowing down the toasts of the town in the Napa Valley isn’t easy because when it comes to naming magnificent winemakers, my cup runneth over. However, it’s impossible to taste and tour all of Napa Valley in one trip no matter how big the Wine Oh! With that in mind here are my fav five, but they might not be yours. If

Albariño

Albariño (al-ba-ree-nyo) In honor of Wine Wednesday I picked up a bargain bin bottle of wine at Cost Plus. I grabbed a 2008 Burgans Albarino Rias Baixas marked down from $11.97 to $7.88 I walked away with a steal and a Wednesday worthy wine. According to the label the wine gets its name from the Burgans hills, the heart of the Salnes Valley in N.W. of Spain. Albariño is by far the the most popular grape variety in Rías Baixas and makes up 90% of all plantings. It is also one of the few Spanish white grape varieties produced as

6 Wine Openers Put to the Test

The drill, double-hinged, red-winged, easy-twist, black pull-tap, rabbit ears, ah-so, & the professional all sound a bit like tools of the trade for a torture chamber, but in fact they are all names of common day corkscrews that you can find in any wine store. To help the bold and not so bold navigate through the ins-and-outs of buying the correct accoutrement, it is nice to know that you are not alone. You know the scene: Mom and Dad busily make dinner in anticipation for friends to arrive. Earlier that day, they dutifully walk into the local wine store with

Barbera

Barbera (bar-BEAR-uh) A lot of patience, a few meditative yoga moves, including Omms, and a winemaker can reward the drinker with the perfect Barbera! Just as the name easily rolls off the tongue, so does this delicious drink. Barbera is a medium bodied wine with its characteristic ruby red color, pronounced tannins, and acidity. Typical flavors of red tart cherry, plum, and spice notes, with mild neutral oak influence and vibrant red and occasionally blue fruit flavors are what make Barbera so yummy.     The Barbera grape originated from Italy and is primarily found in the Piedmont and Asti
